This can be handled by a menu setting or just be enabled by default. The objective here is to find inputs the player would want to make and install safeguards for them.
The objective here is to prevent users from doing things they don’t want to happen while also allowing users with reduced dexterity to have fewer issues when interacting with the product.
Be aware that every element of this feature will disable something a player might want to do so everything done for this feature will take away player control.
Use with care.
Feature Description
This section will not cover a specific feature but rather a range of potential features, sadly most of the elements that want to be part of this will be very specific to the project but here are a few examples of features that could be used.
- Ignore wrong inputs during quick-time-events (Only time will fail the event not pressing the wrong input)
- Prevent players from walking off ledges (“ELDEN RING” has an interesting version of this that only does so during the attack forward movement)
- Any form of aim-assist
- Vehicle steering assistance
- Automatically avoid hazards in pathfinding
So many games feature something that helps here already. The progress for a new product would be to figure out where users frequently fail and consider if there is a good method to allow automation.
